Bali, Indonesia - Korean designer Andre Kim unveiled his 09 spring / summer wear to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park on this exotic island of Bali, Monday.
Invited to grace the eve of Bali Fashion Week 2008, the top designer presented about 130 of his works in the park where the statue of “ Garuda,”an immortal bird, adorns the center.
“ When I first visited Bali in 1988, I decided to hold a fashion show, a beautiful place of pure people,’’says Andre Kim. “ I feel fortunate to have achieved my dream.”
Korea’s greatest actress Han Chae-young and rising actor Park Shi-hoo lent dramatic effect at the show.
White, black, purple, fuschia, royal green, purple, red screaming, neon-pink, gold and white - and even red check plaids - appeared on the catwalk.
Sashaying to the pulsating beat of different music, the show is divided into six stages - World Festival of 2009, Legend of Bali, Island of the Gods, the romance of the Victorian dynasty, Unforgettable Fantasy Kingdom in Korea and Orient, The Secret of Mystery the seven veils and Divine Wedding of Swan Castle.
The designer showed some race for his collection in Bali, which mainly consisted of evening wear and some town wear.
Han and Park first appeared a number of elegant gowns that the stack of the 73-year-old designer. Han is an actress who has appeared in several TV dramas and Park recently starred in the TV drama “ Iljimae.”In the second phase, entitled The Legend of Bali, Island of the Gods, the designer presented with an exotic dresses print of the Balinese gods and nature. In the Victorian romance of Dynasty and Fantasy in Unforgettable Kingdom Korea and Orient, Kim presented more of its staple evening dresses. Another characteristic stage was The Secret Mystery of the seven veils. A lone model came out wearing seven different colored clothing, take them off one by one along a traditional Korean music. In the last phase of Divine Wedding Swan Castle, a series of Kim’s wedding gowns were dramatically presented. Han was in her elegant white wedding, and Park, a bashful gentleman in his clothing.
Kim has about 130 pieces for the show that lasted one hour and ten minutes and was attended by about 800 guests. Kim, who has held numerous fashion shows abroad, is the first Korean designer for his work in Bali. The show was organized by the Moda Bali Convex and supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Bali Fashion Week runs through August 29.
